The I-deas Student Guide is a comprehensive overview of the I-deas design program and it's modules. Well written and richly illustrated, the content is applicable to both new students or experienced CAD designers. It's obvious that the author is highly qualified to put together this book, being both an experienced engineer and I-deas guru. The book references the tutorials built into I-deas, and each chapter has a well-defined workshop where you can apply what was previously covered. This makes for a highly effective method of learning a new CAD program. It appears that the Student Guide will also make an exellent reference book for beginning or intermediate users. The I-DEAS Student guide should be considered a "must-have" book for anyone learning this great program.

The I-DEAS Student Guide Revised Edition--created by Mark Lawry--provides the "big picture" of the powerful EDS software product I-DEAS, and shows its use as an integrated CAD/CAM environment for concurrent engineering. The book provides a quick technical introduction to I-DEAS, including the new I-DEAS version 10, and is ideal for users who want to learn other capabilities of the software. Numerous screen captures provide a visual parallel to the explanations given in the text. The Student Guide covers basic commands and procedures, in a format that makes for convenient reference. The chapter-ending section includes a series of Tutorials that demonstrate basic concepts in a hands-on way. Workshop sections follow the Tutorials, and allow users to apply their knowledge in a design context. The Appendix of the book includes an Icon Summary list, a section on Advanced Features and Interfaces, and a practical Troubleshooting Reference. The Index is set up to further increase the reference value of the Student Guide.
