This level 6 book is an addition to my level 7 book which I use with both my grade 6 and 7 special education students. I love the short stories which are engaging and fun to read. Each story focuses on a key literary element and reading skill such as conflict, plot, character etc. and/or predict, infer, evaluate etc.; and each page offers an opportunity for students to think about the reading and put these new skills to use. Each story also features 6-10 vocabulary words which are highlighted within the story and there are multiple activities to reinforce their meaning. Stories are written by well known authors such as Jack London and Gary Soto. Each story has evaluation activities at the end to assess students' understanding. I would highly recommend this book as a way to teach or reinforce key literary elements and reading comprehension skills.
