You wouldn't trot out these expressions at a diplomatic event, but you will likely hear them used around you and to you, so this is a valuable start on learning the way people talk in everyday life. The dialogs make the context (students planning a party, young women shopping etc.) clear, and there's an excellent glossary with each chapter and at the end of the book. A good way to improve listening comprehension...after all there are only so many subtitled Russian movies you can watch.
