Microeconomics (Mcgraw-Hill) Review

Microeconomics (Mcgraw-Hill)
Average Reviews:

I had to order this for a class (although isn't that the case with most textbooks?). Being an econ text, I had low expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised. This book is written in (mostly) plain English. The chapters are just as long as they need to be. And although it provides the complicated math mumbo-jumbo, for those who would understand it, the authors certainly do not focus on it. I'm about to embark on my MPP and may hold on to this as a reference for the duration of my student days.

Samuelson's text was first published in 1948, and it immediately became the authority for the principles of economics courses. The book continues to be the standard-bearer for principles courses, and this revision continues to be a clear, accurate, and interesting introduction to modern economics principles. Bill Nordhaus is now the primary author of this text, and he has revised the book to be as current and relevant as ever.--This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Macroeconomics (Mcgraw-Hill) Review

Macroeconomics (Mcgraw-Hill)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In comparison with other macroeconomic texts around it should get 5 stars. It starts with a historical perspective of the crisis in economics at the time of Keynes, setting the picture for why anyone bothered to invent macroeconomics in the first place. It then rapidly proceeds to introduce the major schools of macroeconomics and to develop the relevant ideas and models. It is an ideal introduction for the interested or serious student and manages to be exciting as well as fairly comprehensive. If you're taking an introductory macroeconomics course, get this book instead of your text. If you're coming from outside the economics profession and have a mind of your own, this ones for you.

It is very up to date. I like how it breaks up information, and shows examples and/or case studies. I like the images and how it relates the topics being discussed to what's going on in the world. Text books should all be like this. It makes learning easy and fun!!! Love this book!

Living with Art Review

Living with Art
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Living With Art" is a fairly common textbook for intro to art classes, but it manages to rise above the level of a superficial survey. Even though it's probably intended as a textbook, the format doesn't waste space for someone wishing to brush up on their art history outside of the classroom. By that I mean there aren't lengthy end-of-chapter reviews, projects, or answer keys. Having read fairly thoroughly in the field of art and aesthetics, I was not expecting to get a lot out of this book. How much can one really say about art in a single volume? Surprisingly, Getlein says a lot in a very readable, succinct manner.
The book starts out with the impossible question, "what is art"? One of the most pleasant surprises was the discussion of the nature of art. With such a variety of opinions and ideas, to present the major ones in a clear, concise manner is something of an achievement in itself. It sets the tone for the later chapters which are a straightforward history from ancient cave drawings to Jeff Koons inflatable lobsters.
The book itself is quite nice. The images are reproduced with all their detail and color intact. Granted, the images are small, but they are also plentiful. Virtually every point is supported with an image as an example. This is one textbook that students will want to hang on to.
As an alternative, I would recommend E.H. Gombrich's "The Story of Art". It's probably superior in every respect, but it's also a little more difficult for beginners and casual readers. That's not to say that most readers couldn't pick it up and get a lot out of it.
Whether you're looking to brush up on your art history, or you're a student and this is a required purchase, you have a lot to look forward to. I've seen a lot of "comprehensive" histories, but "Living With Art" ranks amongst the top.

Throughout the previous seven editions, this text has earned a reputation for elegance and the highest standards of quality. Living with Art helps students develop an appreciation of art by offering a clear and comprehensive introduction to the visual arts from several perspectives: themes and purposes of art; the vocabulary of art; individual art media (painting, drawing, camera arts, sculpture, architecture, etc.); and the history of art. The book is rich with illustrations drawn from a wide range of artistic cultures and time periods.

Educational Psychology: A Developmental Approach Review

Educational Psychology: A Developmental Approach

It is very helpful for me to learn about educational psychology. Thank you for fast delivery to Korea.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Educational Psychology: A Developmental Approach

This revision continues a tradition started in the early 1970's as the only work of its kind on the market. The text provides all the tools for educational practice in a carefully constructed theoretical tool box. Nearly all current educational psychology texts fail in this regard, as so many are either litanies of research studies more or less pedantically recited, or superficially attractive bits and pieces of educational practice surrounded by eclecticism. This text is written in a lively, readable style and with appropriate humor in places. Also, with the special features of in-depth human interest biographies, carefully developed contemporary issues, theory into practice chapter exercises, and a glossary of key terms for each chapter, the work is never boring. Even more important is the developmental framework itself. For an introductory student, the work provides a comprehensive, often chapter length, analysis of the major developmental theorists such as Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, Kohlberg with clear connections to practice. Also, the more traditional theories such as Gestalt, Skinner, Bruner, Rogers, and information processing, can be integrated within a developmental framework. The traditional behavioral science theories are incorporated into a meaningfiul basis for teaching and learning.New sections include cognitive learning theory, multicultural influences on learning and development, inclusion of exceptional children, and language development.

Not too much has changed between the 17th & 18th editions of this book. It is way overpriced for saying essentially the same things that all economics books say.. not to mention it's not even a hard cover. If you can, try getting the 17th edition, it will save you a ton of money.

McConnell and Brue's Macroeconomics: Principles, Problems, and Policies is the leading Principles of Macroeconomics textbook. It continues to be innovative while teaching students in a clear, unbiased way.The 18th Edition builds upon the tradition of leadership by sticking to 3 main goals: help the beginning student master the principles essential for understanding the economizing problem, specific economic issues, and the policy alternatives; help the student understand and apply the economic perspective and reason accurately and objectively about economic matters; and promote a lasting student interest in economics and the economy.
