(More customer reviews)Thus far, I have been fairly impressed with the quality and consistency of Schaum's Outlines. While I can't fairly evaluate this book's usefulness to CPA candidates, I believe that Baruch Englard's Intermediate Accounting II provides an excellent supplement to those pursuing the CFA curriculum or students studying accounting.
I appreciated Englard's attention to accuracy - I found few errors or discrepancies (but hey that could just be me!). To his credit, he also has a good way of explaining things.
The book's copyright is 1992, but the chapter material was still very relevant. The fundamental concepts presented in the book seem to have lasting value.
Most valuable to me were chapters covering Long-Term Liabilities, Dilutive Securities and Earnings Per Share, Revenue Recognition Issues, Accounting for Leases, Statement of Cash Flows, Accounting for Pensions and Deferred Income Taxes. All of these topics are currently studied under the CFA curriculum. Englard's accounting perspective broadens the financial analysts focus and thus makes the book a very worthwhile read.
Chapter end review problems provide readers with ample opportunity to further understand concepts. I commend Schaum's Outlines for being consistent with this general format. It facilitates one's learning and increased interest in topical studies.

As a dyslexic mathphobe I was very nervous about taking an accounting class and I was not comforted at all by a professor who only seemed to speak in numbers and a textbook that confused even my friend - the CPA.

Financial Statements are complex and not-easily-understandable ones, but should-be-understood ones for business people or to-be business people(students). This Schaum's series is a good practice book to understand the business language(Financial Statements). Schaum's series are very popular for their problem-driven method in understanding theory. The basic rule is "Good understanding means good applicable ability to our real world". Sometimes students forget this basic rule. I couldn't understand why in my school days I could't practice enough with problems like in the Schaum's. So I chose this book to prepare my CMA exam. It is a perfect practice book for your exam in Financial study and also very fast way to get a picture of the Financial statements. If you are a second tongue in English, this book is the very fast way to understand the English Financial Statements. If you are a native, you are a lucky man because you can get to the top two times faster than a foreigner by this book. Don't give up and good luck!
