If you need Social Studies review, this will help a bit with taking the Social Studies test portion of the GED and I do recommend it for that...but it will not help you gain the background knowledge you need. For that I recommend studying a good world atlas, watching historical documentaries by Ken Burns and/or on the History Channel, watching movies based on historical events, and reading books on the presidents, congress, etc. My kids have also studied with the book, "An Incomplete Education" by Judy Jones and William Wilson, which we've found is an okay Reader's Digest format for helping to bolster their educational gaps, though I'm not a fan of the writing.
Good luck getting your GED. And good for you!
(By the way, I was a teacher's assistant in a GED prep class while an undergraduate. Two years ago I mentored my then 15-year-old son to successful completion of the GED when he turned 16 so he could head off to art school early. [He scored so high he earned a large academic scholarship!] Now I'm mentoring my daughter so she can also begin college early. It can be done. And with today's public schools, it's a viable option for those who are willing to take the Robert Frost path to college: the road less traveled.)
