The German Way : Aspects of Behavior, Attitudes, and Customs in the German-Speaking World Review

The German Way : Aspects of Behavior, Attitudes, and Customs in the German-Speaking World

I lived in Germany for over three years. My German acquaintances in general liked Americans; but they greatly disliked our cultural ignorance. I also did part-time work as a tour guide and a portion of "tour guiding" is to educate people on the culture, and saw the extent of this ignorance first-hand. While German/Austrian/Swiss society is in a "big picture" sense similar to American, (guilt vs shame-based culture, individuality vs collectivism) there are major differences in personal and business relationships. Anyone who really wants to know Germany or succeed in business dealings with Germans ignores these differences at their peril. This book does an outstanding job of clearly explaining all aspects of German society from Government through economy, consumerism, to social relationships. It also spells out the contrasts between German and American ways of thinking, and between German and Austrian/Swiss world-views. Bottom line is if you want a better vacation experience in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, a better business trip, or are just interested in other cultures, get this book.

The Moral of the Story: An Introduction to Ethics Review

The Moral of the Story: An Introduction to Ethics

I bought this book for my introduction to ethics college course and after reading the first few chapters, decided I was definetely not selling it back to the college bookstore. This book provides a clear and easy to read format for understanding the more difficult works of the classic philosphers, as well as interweaving the moral lessons in modern movies and books. By relating ethical frameworks to movies you've seen, one is able to gain a clear understanding of ethical thought as taught by the "masters" of moral philosophy. The class is over, but I am still reading this book for enjoyment.

This book is very informative and easy to read. It is written in a way that won't bore you at all. I have tried to read several books about behavioral finance but I found out they're either too long or boring which made me lose interest in the first chapter. Though, with this book, it didn't happen as it is well-written and very interesting. The examples, given to illustrate the points were quite interesting and simple to understand. I very much enjoyed reading about behavioral finance and the biases that managers, investors and financial analysts have when making their decisions. The book is divided into 11 chapters. I highly recommend this books for people who want to know more about behavioral finance.
1. Behavioral Foundations
2. Valuation
3. Capital Budgeting
4. Perceptions about Risk & Return.
5. Inefficient Markets and Corporate Decisions
6. Capital Structure
7. Dividend Policy
8. Agency Conflicts and Corporate Governance
9. Group Process
10. Mergers & Acquisitions
11. Applications of Real-option techniques to Capital Budgeting and Capital Structure(only available at the book's site)
