This is an excellent book on macroeconomics. It goes to great length to break pertinent information down into a format that makes it easy to comprehend. The information is essential for the economics student who needs to obtain a basic understanding of the system. The authors made sure that the information contained in the book is presented in a way that makes it easy to grasp and retain.

McConnell, Brue, and Flynn's Macroeconomics, Brief Edition comes from the same author team as the market-leading Principles of Macroeconomics textbook. It continues to be innovative while teaching students in a clear, unbiased way.Like the 18th edition, Macroeconomics, Brief Edition has 3 main goals: help the beginning student master the principles essential for understanding the economizing problem, specific economic issues, and the policy alternatives; help the student understand and apply the economic perspective and reason accurately and objectively about economic matters; and promote a lasting student interest in economics and the economy.Although the Brief Edition is a derivative of Macroeconomics 18e, is not a cut-and-paste book that simply eliminates several chapters of Macroeconomics 18e and reorders and renumbers the retained content.Instead, Macroeconomics, Brief Edition is a very concise, highly integrated economics textbook that is distinct in purpose, style, and coverage from Macroeconomics 18e.

I had to order this for a class (although isn't that the case with most textbooks?). Being an econ text, I had low expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised. This book is written in (mostly) plain English. The chapters are just as long as they need to be. And although it provides the complicated math mumbo-jumbo, for those who would understand it, the authors certainly do not focus on it. I'm about to embark on my MPP and may hold on to this as a reference for the duration of my student days.

Samuelson's text was first published in 1948, and it immediately became the authority for the principles of economics courses. The book continues to be the standard-bearer for principles courses, and this revision continues to be a clear, accurate, and interesting introduction to modern economics principles. Bill Nordhaus is now the primary author of this text, and he has revised the book to be as current and relevant as ever.--This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Macroeconomics (Mcgraw-Hill) Review

Macroeconomics (Mcgraw-Hill)

In comparison with other macroeconomic texts around it should get 5 stars. It starts with a historical perspective of the crisis in economics at the time of Keynes, setting the picture for why anyone bothered to invent macroeconomics in the first place. It then rapidly proceeds to introduce the major schools of macroeconomics and to develop the relevant ideas and models. It is an ideal introduction for the interested or serious student and manages to be exciting as well as fairly comprehensive. If you're taking an introductory macroeconomics course, get this book instead of your text. If you're coming from outside the economics profession and have a mind of your own, this ones for you.

What a book! Just reading the introduction, I knew this was going to make learning macroeconomics much easier. The writer is a character and explains this to a T. Highly recommended!

Written in an informal colloquial style, this student-friendly Principles of Macroeconomics textbook does not sacrifice intellectual depth in its quest for accessibility. The author's primary concern is to instill "economic sensibility" in the student.Colander emphasizes the intellectual and historical context to which the economic models are applied. This new edition offers improvements to this established and respected text including special Questions from Alternate Perspectives end-of-chapter questions that facilitate class discussion of differing schools of thought in the discipline, and access to over 250 minutes of new videos from Paul Solman of the Lehrer NewsHour.

The Macro Economy Today (McGraw-Hill Economics) Review

This textbook is quite a comprehensive of introductory macroeconomics. Great graphs, well-explained, carefully thought out. The one downside is that it is quite idealistic, as one would expect of a neo-classical economist. The author does not recognize flaws in the theories nor does he acknowledge that the real world is not so cut-and-dry and ordered as we would be led to believe. However, as stated before, this is a wonderful introductory text for anyone who wants to understand the economy today.

Brad Schiller's text, The Macro Economy Today, 12e, is noted for three great strengths: readability, policy orientation, and pedagogy. His accessible writing style engages students and brings some of the excitement of domestic and global economic news into the classroom. Schiller emphasizes how policymakers must choose between government intervention and market reliance to resolve the core issues of what, how, and for whom to produce. This strategic choice is highlighted throughout the full range of micro, macro, and international issues, and every chapter ends with a policy issue that emphasizes the markets vs. government dilemma. Schiller teaches economics in a relevant context, filling his chapters with the real facts and applications of economic life. Schiller is also the only principles text that presents all macro theory in the single consistent context of the AS/AD framework.

Not too much has changed between the 17th & 18th editions of this book. It is way overpriced for saying essentially the same things that all economics books say.. not to mention it's not even a hard cover. If you can, try getting the 17th edition, it will save you a ton of money.
