(More customer reviews)This is the textbook that every Purchasing professional must have on the shelf. It is written by the gurus in the field that helped to define the profession and set standards by developing the professional certification requirements.
The book establishes common language to describe Purchasing core processes that are applicable across industry and organizational lines. Because of the common language it establishes it can be really helpfull for someone who has been in a single industry or organization for some time that wants to transition to another industry but only knows the terms from their previos field.
For example someone involved in government procurement wishing to transition to the private sector might find the book usefull. Furthermore, it is written in the same language as appears on the NAPM APP and CPM examinations.
I have used the book both in a Purchasing Masters Degree Program at St Marys College in California and also in a Purchasing Certificate Program offered by the University of Phoenix and the material and cases are always well received by the students. The cases in particular are good and provide a common ground for people who have used the book.
There are some other books out there and new gurus are emerging but for now this is still the best.

(More customer reviews)I admit it. I used to be intimidated with accounting. Its concepts were somewhat of a mystery. Debits and credits, journals and ledgers, balance sheets and income statements, adjusting entries, etc. You get the picture.
A year and a half ago, I bought this book. I now enjoy accounting because the authors were so successful and effective in teaching its precepts. Lerner and Cashin have turned muddy water into a clear pool. Why weren't my college professors so effective?
I read this book from cover to cover. I'm hoping that others will benefit as much as I have from this book. Chapters cover: accounting concepts, financial statements, transactional classification, adjusting and closing procedures, business and merchandising worksheets, methods of valuing inventory, receivables, cash and its control, payroll, and also property plant and equipment
The magic of this book revolves around lucid explanations and practical examples. The authors teach the principles, provide numerous examples and then afford the reader the opportunity to apply the lessons material. The book takes you step by step and builds upon the fundamentals.
If you take the time to do the chapter end problems, you should benefit greatly from this introduction to accounting.
Truly, I think the book is a wonderful resource and guide.

It distills the ridiculous amount of content from my accounting text down to the essentials AND GIVES EXAMPLES in line. No, it won't replace your text, most likely, but it'll come darn close. I read this first, then my accounting text. Makes my comprehension level of my text skyrocket as I already have a general idea going in. Well worth its cost.

(More customer reviews)Words like "shallow" and "superficial" do not begin to express how poor this textbook is. You will finish the semester knowing little more about A&P than you did at the start. Also, it has no CD-ROM included now. And there's no website resources, either.
Be aware that this PAPERBACK text is *poorly* constructed. My brand-new copy, bought at full retail price, literally fell apart when first opened; and one classmate found entire sections just plain missing from her copy. Check your copy carefully when you first receive it. Hopefully, it will last long enough to sell at semester's end, and you can forget you ever took the course.

(More customer reviews)You can pretty much judge this one by its cover. It's very shiny and contains a grammatical error right in the title. Nearly half of the book is occupied by graphics and other visual aids. Personally, I felt like I was developing ADD reading this book. I was constantly being diverted away from the text by figures that more often than not added nothing of value. The book is fairly shallow and is oriented to young business majors with zero technical background. One positive aspect was that it provided plenty of real-world examples. For those from CS or MIS backgrounds, this is certainly not worth the ~$120; you probably already know half the book already. For business majors I can't judge, although I would consider it to be a light introduction. A must have for connoisseurs of shiny objects.

Financial Statements are complex and not-easily-understandable ones, but should-be-understood ones for business people or to-be business people(students). This Schaum's series is a good practice book to understand the business language(Financial Statements). Schaum's series are very popular for their problem-driven method in understanding theory. The basic rule is "Good understanding means good applicable ability to our real world". Sometimes students forget this basic rule. I couldn't understand why in my school days I could't practice enough with problems like in the Schaum's. So I chose this book to prepare my CMA exam. It is a perfect practice book for your exam in Financial study and also very fast way to get a picture of the Financial statements. If you are a second tongue in English, this book is the very fast way to understand the English Financial Statements. If you are a native, you are a lucky man because you can get to the top two times faster than a foreigner by this book. Don't give up and good luck!

Possibly the gentlest introduction to international finance, the book does not waste any time with implementation of the ideas, instead provides you with the requisite knowledge, and illustrative examples. I had the fortune of being taught the subject by the author (Dr. Eun), and so the book was fully utilized. However, other teachers would also find the book an ideal companion to course notes. In fact, the book is so well written, it seems like a tutorial. You cannot go wrong if you are using it for international finance courses. The book will also help you with preparation for the CFA charter examinations.
