Introduction to Graphics Communication for Engineers is a short introductory technical drawing text intended for use in technical drawing or drafting courses at two and four year schools or other technology programs.
Powerful computers and CAD software are of little use to engineers who do not fully understand the fundamentals of graphics communication principles and 3-D modeling strategies, or do not possess a level of visualization ability. Because of this, Bertoline concentrates on the concepts and skills necessary to sketch and create 2-D drawings and 3-D CAD models in this text.New to the third edition are "Design in Industry Boxes" that cover an aspect of design as practiced in industry.Quotes and interesting stories from practicing engineers make the boxes motivating and informative for students. Also new are practice sketching problems included throughout each chapter, which allow students a chance to practice what they are learning.
This book is part of the B.E.S.T. (Basic Engineering Series and Tools), which consists of modularized textbooks offering virtually every topic and specialty likely to be of interest to engineers.

I ordered the book and i checked my email three days later and had 3 emails from Amazon (IN THIS ORDER,from recent to latest): one saying that i had purchased the book, the second saying that my money had been refunded and put back on my card...and the third email saying that the book was sent and will arrive shortly. So i was very confused at what that all meant and if the book was even coming or not. I don't think the seller was checking back on their amazon page changing their stock count of the book, and realized they didn't have any left AFTER I put my order in for it.

Elementary Statistics: A Brief Version Review

Elementary Statistics: A Brief Version

I used this book last semester. I then sold it. Now, I want it back. I am taking a follow-up stat course, but this book is my bible. It really is a great addition to any stat study. Will be buying a new one.

"Elementary Statistics: A Brief Version", is a shorter version of the popular text "Elementary Statistics: A Step by Step Approach". This softcover edition includes all the features of the longer book, but it is designed for a course in which the time available limits the number of topics covered. It is for general beginning statistics courses with a basic algebra prerequisite. The book is non-theoretical, explaining concepts intuitively and teaching problem solving through worked examples and step-by-step instructions. This edition places more emphasis on conceptual understanding and understanding results. This edition also features increased emphasis on Excel, MINITAB, and the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus graphing calculators; computing technologies commonly used in such courses.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The Unfinished Nation: A Concise History of the American People, Volume 2 Review

The Unfinished Nation: A Concise History of the American People, Volume 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Alan Brinkley has put together a wonderfully readable, balanced, and thorough history of the US, in just under a thousand pages. It would be ideal for college introductory classes (or very sophisticated high school students); particularly welcome are the selections from primary sources ("American Voices") that often represent other-than-white-male views, but include William Bradford on landing at Plymouth and Nixon on China, and the dozen or so segments called "Debating the Past" that reviw the differing perspectives historians have taken on such topics as slavery, populism, and Viet Nam. I have been a teacher for a quarter of a century, and this is the book I wish I'd had all that time

Business Communication: Building Critical Skills Review

Business Communication: Building Critical Skills
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having taught business communications for years, I've been waiting for a textbook that effectively combines business theory with practical approaches for improving students' writing. Using an innovative modular approach, Locker & Kaczmarek's Business Communication-Building Critical Skills (BCS) succeeds in doing both.
What I like most about BCS the flexibility it affords. Its modular approach enabled me to design a curriculum that complemented my teaching style. For instance, each module contains a "Polishing your Prose" section-a series of exercises that review topics ranging from grammar to parallel structure. Throughout the semester, I've used these sections to help students improve their writing noticeably. Other texts tend to relegate discussions about grammar and the craft of writing to single chapter or a less-than-adequate appendix.
In addition to creating an innovative and flexible text, Locker and Kaczmarek have helped to simplify the instructor's job by providing a wealth of supplementary materials, including an online resource, PowerPoint presentations, transparency masters, a test bank, and a computerized gradebook.
Having already used Business Communication-Building Critical Skills, I cannot recommend the text enough. I expect to use it for many semesters to come. I would encourage you to purchase the book (Published by McGraw-Hill) and see for yourself.

Overview:Business Communication: Building Critical Skills provides a unique approach to a hands-on course, devised and created in its previous editions by Kitty Locker, with the assistance of a community college colleague, Stephen Kaczmarek. The innovative module structure allows instructors to focus on specific skills and provides greater flexibility for short courses and different teaching approaches. While grounded in solid business communication fundamentals, this text takes a strong workplace activity orientation which helps students build the writing, speaking, and listening skills that are crucial for success in the 21st-century workplace.

The West in the World, Volume I: To 1715 Review

The West in the World, Volume I: To 1715

I believe these two historians have made a giant leap forward as it pertains to piecing together history, then doing it from as many perspectives as possible. The use of religion as a whole, not just a single one, to reflect its contributions - whether positive or negative - on an area has truly made this a fitting purchase. While I do not agree with all aspects or trains of thought, I can truly respect the effort and point of view of these two authors.

Better readers make better writers. Today's students do read—we know that they read a significant amount of email, text messages, web pages, and even magazines. What many do not do is read in a sustained way. Many do not come to college prepared to read long texts, nor do they come with the tools necessary to analyze and synthesize what they read. Nick Delbanco and Alan Cheuse have proven in their own teaching that when you improve students' ability and interest in reading, you will help them improve their writing. Bringing writers to students, brings students to writing.Literature: Craft and Voice is an innovative new Introductory Literature program designed to engage students in the reading of Literature, all with a view to developing their reading, analytical, and written skills. Accompanied by, and integrated with, video interviews of dozens of living authors who are featured in the text, conducted by authors Nick Delbanco and Alan Cheuse specifically for use with their textbook, the book provides a living voice for the literature on the page and creates a link between the student and the authors of great works of literature. The first text of its kind, Literature: Craft and Voice offers a more enjoyable and effective reading experience through its fresh, inviting design and accompanying rich video program.

Emerging Financial Markets Review

Emerging Financial Markets
Average Reviews:

I used this book as a secondary book in an MBA class in international financial institutions. The students liked the book (not the price) and I enjoyed teaching from these very well edited teaching notes. Actually, teaching notes is not the right way to describe the book - as each well-researched and well-written chapter focuses on a very specific area. It was easy to integrate the material across different institutions books. Warmly recommended. Only suggestion: needs updating.

This is the first text to be written on Emerging Financial Markets. The book is partially the result of a grant given by Citibank to Columbia Business School for the purpose of designing a new course in emerging financial markets for their MBA program. The text reflects the tremendous research in recent years seeking to explain the financial crises in Latin America and Asia during the mid to late 1990's and related issues such as capital flows, currency regimes, legal and regulatory matters, corporate governance, and the functions and structure of financial systems. "Emerging Financial Markets" suggests and explores three key foundations that explain why emerging markets behave differently than developed markets: law, institutions of information and control, and inflation and currency stability.

Essentials of Economics Review

I recently took an Economics class and used this book for class. I found the book very easy to use along with the instructors notes. Key terms and definitions are provided alongside the text for easy referral later. The summary at the end of each chapter hits upon key points and helped with studying. The problems and exercises at the end of the chapters were helpful also, and the book provided the answers in the back, just in case.

Essentials of Economics is the market leader for the one-semester survey course. In just about 400 pages, it provides a solid introduction to the core concepts of economics with an emphasis on real-world examples and current events. Essentials has earned its popular success because, unlike other books on the market, it is free of the abstract and complex theory that requires more time than this course allows.Instead, the text is clean and concise, with many examples of significance to students today, including Headlines and Policy Perspectives that use current events to help illustrate the topics discussed. This real-world policy emphasis is a distinctive feature of Schiller's text and is integral to its dominance of the survey text market.

Essentials of Life-Span Development Review

Essentials of Life-Span Development

This book uses simplistic language to explain various theories and studies about human development. This is achieved through the works of Freud, Erikson, Piaget,Vygotsky, and others. The various theories presented focus on biological, physiological, and sociological development during early, middle, and late stages of life for infants, children, adolescents, and adults. Throughout the book the continuing debate between nature and nurture as having ultimate control over human development is presented.

Average Reviews:

I chose this book for my 5th grade Spelling. It is fantastic. It offers 35 lessons of about 4 pages each, perfect to cover in one week with a test on Friday. My 5th grader is a natural speller, but the words are challenging and there are even bonus words in each lesson. This can be used for vocabulary as well. There is a nice glossary in the back with all the definitions of the spelling words. The full color pages are interesting and exciting. There is one lesson near the end on National Parks. I look forward to some extra research and projects when we work on that lesson, maybe even a couple of field trips! This is a great book to use if you homeschool.

Schaum's Outline of Basic Mathematics with Applications to Science and Technology (Schaum's) Review

Schaum's Outline of Basic Mathematics with Applications to Science and Technology (Schaum's)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book from Schaum's is an all-in-one review/tutorial book for anyone who wants to brush up his math and is especially useful for those who want to apply math knowledge to areas such as astronomy, business, and electronics. First of all - what this book is NOT: This book isn't all a review of basic elementary arithmetic concepts like addition, multiplication, proportions, and decimals. In fact, it actually covers this stuff really briefly in the first chapter. It really covers high school mathematic subjects such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and statistics. Maybe "Outline of High School Mathematics" would be a more accurate title.
This outline goes through math subjects too quickly to be considered an effective tutorial. For example, geometry essentials are covered in only one chapter. Its actual contents - Over half of this book is on intermediate algebra topics, followed by trigonometry.
This was really a great all-in-one math manual for me. Great buy!

España y su civilización, updated Review

Espaandntilde;a y su civilizaciandoacute;n, updated
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this book to A. practice my Spanish and B. learn a bit about Spanish history, and I definitely got both (and then some) with this text. It's definitely meant for students - at the end of sections there are comprehension and discussion questions and a list of sources to check out. I'd say it's for the intermediate/advanced student, someone who has studied Spanish for at least a few years.
In terms of content, this book is pretty much an overview of the history, and doesn't get into TOO much detail, which is ideal if you haven't studied Spanish history/cultural at all/very little. The book is divided into 5 units, dedicated to I. la prehistoria hasta la edad media, II. siglo de oro, III. siglo de luces y reformas (siglos 18 y 19), IV. Siglo XX, V. presente y futuro (book published in 1998 so it's un poco pasado ahora!) There's a particular focus on the arts - literature, art, music, which I love because it'll make a nice reference book for most any Spanish literature class.
I also have to say that I love the style too - it's clear and concise and pretty easy to understand, but it's not really dumbed down either. Love it! :)
