Children Review

I contacted the seller because I requested it to ship it to another address as we would be out of the state after I ordered it and I wanted to be sure we would get it while we were there. They said it would be no problem. When I checked the tracking I saw it was coming from Thailand (not where the seller's location states). I selected the seller based on them being on the west coast so I was a little concerned about that but the book ended up arriving sooner than expected.

Life-Span Development Review

I couldn't agree more that this text is, to put it kindly, sketchy. I don't know what level it is meant for, but I'm using it in graduate school, and frankly, it isn't telling me anything I didn't learn back in Intro to Psych 101. It also appears very choppy within sections and you can tell where updates were stuck in and not well-integrated. (I always love the shoehorned-in references to women or minorities, not just a crime of this book, however.) It's also poorly written in spots, as I'm reading about something I already know and the explanation is about as clear as mud. I feel sorry for people who haven't learned some of the material elsewhere. As I will be facing this material on a licensing exam, I am in the market for another book - one that might teach me something I didn't learn in high school/freshman year in college.

The paperback version is nice because it's cheaper... but after reading it, I think I would prefer the hard cover. Paperback books of a small size are fine, but this one is too large to work as a paperback. I have a hard time reading it because if I put it on my lap it sort of flops over and I can't see the whole page.
As to the content... I found it to be a little insulting. A lot of the points the text makes are sort of trite and obvious. It says things like "children are our future." This is true, but it doesn't seem like something that needs to be said in a college level textbook.
It looks pretty, with nice pictures and quotes in the margins, but there just doesn't seem to be much substance. I think a topic as interesting as child development should have a more interesting book.

This book uses simplistic language to explain various theories and studies about human development. This is achieved through the works of Freud, Erikson, Piaget,Vygotsky, and others. The various theories presented focus on biological, physiological, and sociological development during early, middle, and late stages of life for infants, children, adolescents, and adults. Throughout the book the continuing debate between nature and nurture as having ultimate control over human development is presented.

Adolescence Review

Adolescence
Average Reviews:

I bought this book for a course I was taking in adolescent psychology. The book is well organized, and I enjoyed using it in the course. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was that there were a few topics common to adolescents that I wanted more information on, and they were not included in the text. Otherwise, this is a fine book.
