This is a great book. As a clinical psychology student, this is the first book I have found to provide the detailed information that I have been looking for as far as how to interview for the various disorders. The only problem is that this book was written before the DSM revision. I cannot seem to find any more recent editions.

Understanding Prejudice and Discrimination Review

Understanding Prejudice and Discrimination
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to learn about prejudice and disrimination. It is comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics. It is also very interesting to read. A must for anyone who wants to learn about prejudice then and prejudice now. It is a misconception that prejudice and discrimination is a thing of the past or something that was dealt with in the sixties. This book will show you how racism still exists today in a much more subtle ( and sometimes not so subtle ) form. I recommend this book to professors who are teaching classes on prejudice and discrimination.

This anthology, edited by Scott Plous, can be used as a main text or supplementary text for courses on prejudice, discrimination, and diversity. It includes a unique collection of readings edited, adapted, or updated specifically for this anthology — some of which have never been published before. Interdisciplinary in scope and wide-ranging in approach, the anthology combines research articles, opinion polls, legal decisions, news reports, personal narratives, and more. Several readings come from people on the receiving end of prejudice (often referred to as "targets" of prejudice), whereas other readings focus on perpetrators, bystanders, and social institutions. Note: The book can also be used in conjunction with UnderstandingPrejudice.org, a web site that includes interactive exercises and demonstrations, multimedia materials, tips for instructors, and other prejudice-related resources.

An Introduction To Music Therapy: Theory and Practice Review

An Introduction To Music Therapy: Theory and Practice
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My first (and probably only) music therapy course used this book as it's text. I am a musician, so I'm coming from that perspective. However, there is surprisingly little information on here as far as music skills. The assumption is that those skills are developed outside of this particular class.
The author gets into the specifics of a wide range of disabilities, disorders and conditions. The way the brain processed music is presented in a thorough, yet (relatively) simplistic way. It's a detailed study, and not just a bunch of fun facts, so you have to be ready to take the time to research.
The questions at the end of the chapters provided an excellent review for each class, and the book was well organized. I would certainly recommend both the book, as well as a Music Therapy class to anyone with any interest.

Available for the first time in paperback, this low-cost, high-quality guide to music therapy thought, research, and practice is the ideal text for a one semester overview and the perfect handbook for the practicing professional. You'll find that Davis, Gfeller, and Thaut's detailed descriptions of the populations most likely to receive music therapy are strongly supported by background material and extensive references, helping students build a firm base from which to explore the range of current healing modalities.

We used this text for my Introduction to Psychology class. The book is very well organized and allows anyone to easily possess a grasp of the fundementals of psychology.
This was the only one my textbooks for my first semester that I actually didn't mind reading. Lahey's prose is very readable and he includes several antecdotes to add flavor to the material.
I would recomend this one to anyone who has an academic or personal interest in psychology. If you are a student, the book is an additional plus because it is available in paperback, which greatly cuts down on cost.

Developmental Psychopathology (Mcgraw-Hill International Editions: Psychology Series) Review

Developmental Psychopathology (Mcgraw-Hill International Editions: Psychology Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book was used as a text book for one of my psychology classes. Most sell their books back at the end of the time but I would suggest not selling this book. I found so much useful information in it and it was not boring to read. Each aspects are covered with a child and what had happened to cause the maladaptive behavior or disorder to develop. Its a good keep for anyone who is going into the field of psychology especially with children.

Accessible and clearly written, "Developmental Psychopathology, 4/e", is designed to be challenging to students rather than being "dumbed down" for them. Presenting a balance of perspectives, including the behavioral, psychodynamic, cognitive, and family systems, the authors provide a rich, thought-provoking, and integrative view of developmental psychopathology. In this new edition, a consistent organizational scheme is used in each chapter, and the research is up-to-date, including particular attention to important new emerging themes such as attachment, neurobiological models, and peer relations.

Conflict Resolution Review

Conflict Resolution
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I found this book to be of tremendous value. Conflict Resolution is an easy to read resource that is full of practical information that can be applied immediately on the job. It is not only a must-have for managers and supervisors, but also an essential resource for anyone who would like to have more effective relationships and live a conflict free life. Daniel Dana writes with a friendly and often humorus style and it is clear that he has a vast knowledge of this topic. He has a great ability to take a complex subject and make it simple and easy to use with specific "how-to" steps, and that really makes this book valuable to me. I have now successfully used the resolution approaches outlined in this book both in my profession as a consultant and trainer, and in a family conflict situation that was causing a lot of pain. Additionally, the ideas in this book have worked for me in both one-on-one conflicts and group conflicts. The bottom line - this works.

Sex and Gender: An Introduction Review

Sex and Gender: An Introduction
Average Reviews:

I'm usually very skeptical of doing a great deal of online purchasing. TRUST & SATISFACTION are usually my two main concerns. I purcased a book for my class and it was delivered just as promised. Packaging was great. Book was in great condition. Unfortunately because there was no picture, I assumed that the correct book was being sent. I selected the 5th edition (which is what I needed) but received the 2nd edition. I may have to return it if the information needed doesn't coincide with material in syllabus. Other than that no problem.....I will continue to use.

Intimate Relationships Review

Intimate Relationships
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had to purchase this book for one of my classes and I thought that I would be receiving some cheesy text about how men are from mars and women are from venus. This book is essentially the exact opposite of that. I would say that almost all of the information provided in the book is useful in my everyday life. It's an easy read, but goes into enough detail to really understand all the issues. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a refreshing read that actually has solid information on intimate relationships. I have taken a whole semester course on the psychology of love and this book covers it all. Well, almost. It's not written as an opinion piece, there is actual research that has gone into this text.

Public and Private Families: A Reader Review

Public and Private Families: A Reader
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book was used as a textbook for a sociology of family class.
One interesting observation is that there is an odd absence of studies and articles concerning men. I am not sure if this is because of the body of research out there or because this particular author chose to disregard those studies. Overall, nice balance of pro- and anti-traditional family input.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Public and Private Families: A Reader

This reader examines the family through two lenses--the familiar private family, in which we live our personal lives, and the public family, in which we deal with broader societal issues, such as raising the next generation, and the care of the elderly. Consequently, these readings look both at intimate, personal concerns, such as whether to marry, as well as societal concerns, such as governmental policies that affect families. The reader corresponds exactly to and is published concurrent with Cherlin's textbook Public and Private Families: An Introduction; both the textbook and the reader have 14 chapters of the same names.
