(More customer reviews)preparing for the ACT? this is a great book to get, as the math section of the test is where one can improve most by studying. the questions on the practice tests mirror those from real tests (from the official ACT guide) - yet the explanations are far superior to those in the official guide. they are concise, straightforward and easily understood - so much so that my son wished he had this book as a study guide for his math classes.
the glossary alone is worth the purchase price - as it highlights all the formulas one should know for the exam. the book also contains a section that covers the concepts the ACT will test - so one can quickly discover their weak areas and focus their efforts most productively. even after the exam, the book will retain its value as a quick and easy math reference.
if you buy only one prep guide - this is it. mcgraw-hill also offer a book with ten practice full tests, that i would recommend over the official guide that only contains three tests.

(More customer reviews)As a private tutor, I'm familiar with most of the test prep guides and use different books to teach different aspects of the test. This is a terrific book if you understand its purpose. This book is not a substitute for a 'core' test prep book. It will not teach you the rules of grammar, punctuation, or what a main idea is. What you will learn are simple strategies for identifying and answering the types of questions that appear over and over on the ACT. It's an easy read, and the skills are presented clearly and concisely. The questions on the pretest, post-test, and practice sections are linked to each skill. The writing tutorial is one of the best I've seen. However, there's a major error on pages 92-95 which virtually obliterates skills 36 & 37. With this exception, it has proved to be a valuable addition to my library.

(More customer reviews)I have not been in school since 2006 and I just took my ACT last weekend. After signing up for the ACT, I spent hours online trying to pick out the book that would help me prepare. I am very strong with English and Reading, but a little more than rusty on my Math skills. I decided to purchase a book that would mainly focus on the Math section. This book was my decision. The only book I purchased for ACT prep. At first I was unsure if I had made the right choice in the one book that would help me get ready for this big test. When I sat down and started taking the pretest, I realized I was in deeper than I thought. But when the lessons started--I mean the "skills", I started to understand the equations and it made the Math seem a lot simpler. Each lesson has 5 questions; ranging from easy to hard, that help you review each skill. After you are through with all the skills, there is a review and a posttest. There is also a CD-ROM attached that has 2 additional practice test. I completed the book and both practice tests. The night before the test, I didn't need to cram. The Math test was second, after English. I was so confident with my Math and with the help of a good calculator (TI-30XIIS), I even had time to go back and check my work! This book really helped me prepare for everything that was included on the test. I was so happy with the results and how much I learned!
