This is great for all age levels. From able-to-read-age to adult. My only complaint is that I can't find more books like this! The stories are cute, the vocabulary building is almost effortless, and the illustrations are great:) I'm very happy to have found this book and highly recommend it to everyone:)

Your First 100 Words in German : German for Total Beginners Through Puzzles and Games Review

Your First 100 Words in German : German for Total Beginners Through Puzzles and Games

This book is an amazing tool for starting your German Vocabulary. I had gotten a good start using a CD set, as an intro to the grammer and syntax, but after that part is over you need to learn words! There is no way around it. This book introduces common words that we use ourselves to introduce children to our native language. Body parts, things around the house, animals, geographical entities (rivers, forests), and greetings and exclamations.
The book itself is setup like a grade school workbook, with simple matching activities after showing the words. The back also contains rip out flash cards for every word mentioned in the book. A final useful tool is a puncuation guide in the front with valid examples, so if you can't read German yet (I couldn't when I started), you will learn how to read the words used.

Takes the intimidation out of learning German

Learning German can be scary to you as a beginner, especially if you have attempted once before and failed. The reasons are many: too fast a pace, an overwhelming amount of vocabulary, or problematic memorization. Your First 100 Words in German eliminates these obstacles by presenting the meanings and pronunciations of 100 basic words in a simple workbook format, each illustrated and transliterated so you can grasp the word without struggling.

Schaum's Easy Outline of German (Schaum's Easy Outlines) Review

Schaum's Easy Outline of German (Schaum's Easy Outlines)

I have studied German for almost six months, and I can tell you that this little book allows me to comprehend the material that I am learning in class much more quickly. This book is perfect for beginners because a more complex grammar guide can confuse the first time learner. As I advance in my studies, I plan to upgrade to the complete editions.

Communicating In German, Advanced Level Review

Communicating In German, Advanced Level

...but not really to learn on your own. We used this text in my University German class. In class, we groaned when we had to do the chapter on car parts (I mean I don't really even know what a spark plug is in English!), but the book does teach you important vocabulary while utilizing a thematic approach. It is one of the texts I always take with me for reference. Also, for a classroom environment, the book gives situations and asks questions which are good starting points for conversational practice.
