Biophysics DeMYSTiFied Review

Biophysics DeMYSTiFied

This introduction to biophysics is very well written and covers the basics in a very clear and easy to follow manner. The discussion on entropy was particularly clear and better than most physics textbooks treatments of the subject. I would definitely recommend it to those with even a basic knowledge of physics.

Prescott's Microbiology Review

Prescott's Microbiology
Average Reviews:

I learned a hell of a lot more from this text than my professor. It was better written than I expected, it's as up to date as you can expect a textbook to be, and the pictures/diagrams are good. And most importantly, IDENTICAL to the hardback, but cheaper.

The brand new author team of Prescott, Harley and Klein's "Microbiology" continues the tradition of past editions by providing a balanced, comprehensive introduction to all major areas of microbiology. Because of this balance, the "Seventh Edition of Microbiology" is appropriate for microbiology majors and mixed majors courses. The new authors have focused on readability, artwork, and the integration of several key themes (including evolution, ecology and diversity) throughout the text, making an already superior text even better.

Schaum's Easy Outline Molecular and Cell Biology Review

Schaum's Easy Outline Molecular and Cell Biology
Average Reviews:

I bought this book so I would not have to shuffle through the pages of my cell/molucular bio textbook. Although this book was great with having the main concepts, there wasn't much detail. But that is the purpose of the book- to have the main molecular biology topics in a clear and organized manner. For more detail and test questions get the full outline book from the same series. If you just want the info you need to know this book is outstanding!

Genetics: From Genes to Genomes. Leland H. Hartwell ... Review

Genetics: From Genes to Genomes. Leland H. Hartwell ...

This international edition is exactly what I needed and for a great price. It is much cheaper than it's American counterpart, which is a hard back. The only downside is that the page edges will bend if you aren't careful, but other than that, it is an amazing intro to Genetics book if you need one.

The Basic Science of Oncology Review

The Basic Science of Oncology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is probably the best introductory oncology book I have found. I taught out of it in classes for advanced undergrades, first year graduate students and doctor of pharmacy students. It is comprehensive and easily readable, and the treatment of general concepts is second to none. Some of the listings of identified oncogenes and such are a bit dated, but that should be rectified when the 3rd edition is published (currently expected April 1, 1998). The section on the biology underlying cancer treatment is particularly useful, and hopefully the 1998 update will continue to be so.

This concise text examines cancer causation and biology as well as the biology underlying cancer treatment. Thoroughly updated and reorganized with five new chapters, the Fourth Edition emphasizes new development in molecular biology, hormone therapy, and the pharmacology of anti-cancer drugs. Features updated coverage of the basic science of radiotherapy and experimental radiation in addition to expansive coverage of new drugs developments.
