CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2011 (LANGE CURRENT Series) Review

CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2011 (LANGE CURRENT Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wish I'd read the reviews of th 2010 edition before downloading the current Kindle edition. I have the 2008 paperback and love the book, but as a Kindle reviewer said in another review, it is nearly impossible to find what you are looking for in the Kindle edition. Using Kindle for PC the searches are fairly fast, but you only get a few words associated and a bunch of hits, so that you need to go through every hit to find what you are looking for, a BIG time waster. Even worse, I got this mostly so I could have a medical reference on my iPod Touch. Searching and finding what you want is cumbersome, poorly executed, and SLOOW.... It is hard to find even the Table of Contents on the Touch, and even the index is nearly useless. This is a great book in paperback, too bad I wasted $50 on the Kindle edition.

Color Atlas and Synopsis of Sexually Transmitted Diseases Review

Color Atlas and Synopsis of Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I believe this was a great book, it provided a lot of needed information on stds, the contraction of certain disease, etc. It was almost like a reference guide to me. It made me feel much better after i had gained all the needed knowledge. STD'S are one of those "quiet diseases", that nobody really talks about...However,you have to get your information from somewhere, right?....So why not get it from a reliable source with a huge layout of information.(even pictures) So, all in all i rate this book a 5, i doubt it could throughly describe std's any better then it did.

A Doody's Core Title!

5 STAR DOODY'S REVIEW!"Any practitioner, public health official, or educator in the field will find a use for this book. Patients may find it valuable for education purposes, as well....This second edition certainly has improved upon its predecessor. Its practical nature, clear photos, and comments following clinical cases provide practitioners with expert guidance as if the editor were physically present. Seldom does a book deliver what it promises; however, in this instance, it has and I feel it will become a standard for years."--Doody's Review Service
From the author's world renowned collection of clinical photographs comes this unprecedented collage of full color views of common and uncommon sexually transmitted diseases. An invaluable tool for differential diagnosis of STDs, the atlas features one to two color photograph for each disorder and accompanies those with the salient points of epidemiology, clinical signs, physical exam, diagnosis, and management. 20 Common Probems in Dermatology Review

20 Common Probems in Dermatology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a medical student who is getting his first taste of Dermatology. Since our notes do not include color photographs, I decided to buy a book. At first, I was tempted by color atlases but then I found this book. Not only does it contain color photos, but each chapter is dedicated to a specific problem (e.g. warts) and covers such issues as treatment and prognosis. Color atlases are nice but, if you want more info as to what to actually do about the disease, you might want to give this book a try.

Last Minute Internal Medicine: A Concise Review for the Specialty Boards (Last Minute Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Essentially a graph and chart review of internal medicine topics. Most are 10-40 pages in length. Gives important points, but not in-depth detail. It may have been a little better format if the charts were all portrait rather than alternating portrait/landscape. For last minute study, it will help you identify key words and phrases. But if you have more study time, use this in conjunction with a standard medical text.

Pathology: The Big Picture (LANGE The Big Picture) Review

Pathology: The Big Picture (LANGE The Big Picture)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm writing this review as a medical student. I would be comparing this book to the other high yield path books out there: BRS pathology, and rapid review pathology (goljan). This book is great, clear sentences and descriptions, great pictures, high yield facts. Some cons: no treatment indications. The one great thing about the rapid review path is that it always includes a few sentences about how the disease is treated thus giving you more of a whole picture of the disease, which is what these books ought to do since they are not aimed at providing deep reviews of each disease but rather a comprehensive review. However stylistically I understood the disease process better in this book since the sentences are not just bullet points. It has a good format now, but could use some more charts and diagrams and most importantly treatments. There's still room for improvement.

Pathophysiology of Disease An Introduction to Clinical Medicine, Sixth Edition (Lange Medical Books) Review

Pathophysiology of Disease An Introduction to Clinical Medicine, Sixth Edition (Lange Medical Books)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent pathophysiology book available in the market. I am right now preparing for my step 2 but I wish I would have used this book for my step 1. I have a decent score on my step 1 and I have taken the exam recently and I think if somebody masters this book they can rock the exam. This book gives excellent information regarding many diseases. I am trying to study this book right now with CMDT, which is also by the same author. Because CMDT is a very concise text book of IM it doesn't explain all the pathophysiology for a disease but this book has all the answers about the pathophysiology of a disease. And I think its a worth buying book for all the medical students, if you study this book little by little during preclinical years it will help you very much understand the IM in the clinical years. I was surprize to find some infornation which I was craving for since few years of my med school. You will even find pathophysilogy of very rare syndromes, as for example I was amazed when I read about X linked Hypophosphatemic rickets. If you are like me who wants to have explanation behind everything, get this book today, you wan't be disappointed.

4 STAR DOODY'S REVIEW!"This is a great addition to the ranks of pathophysiology books for graduate students in medicine. It also is useful as a reference while on the wards as a memory jogger for basic anatomy, physiology, and pathology of common diseases. The addition of the full-color diagrammatic illustrations and tables and theexpanded case studies make the e book aesthetically pleasing and easily navigable. Overall, this is a great book to have on hand for the preclinical years, clinical years, and beyond!"--Doody's Review Service

This trusted text introduces you to clinical medicine by reviewing the pathophysiologic basis of the signs and symptoms of 100 diseases commonly encountered in medical practice. Each chapter first describes normal function of a major organ or organ system, then turns attention to the pathology and disordered physiology, including the role of genetics, immunology, and infection in pathogenesis. Underlying disease mechanisms are described, along with their systems, signs, and symptoms, and the way these mechanisms themselves determine the most effective treatment.

CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2010, Forty-Ninth Edition (LANGE CURRENT Series) Review

CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2010, Forty-Ninth Edition (LANGE CURRENT Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I basically agree with all the reviews of this book. However, I would strongly NOT recommend the KINDLE version of this text. The ability to search the text is very poor. Most text searches require very precise wording to locate an item of interest and will generally find the first occurrence not the primary entry that the paperback index references.
The only option is therefore to start at the beginning of a relevant chapter and troll through trying to find the reference you're looking for. Hardly helpful in a book that averaged around 2000 pages.
Get the paperback version. Kindle reference texts aren't usable. Perhaps iPad will do it better.....
