Management Strategy: Achieving Sustained Competitive Advantage, 2e, by Alfred Marcus, is a brief, focused paperback text, allowing ample time for the instructor to incorporate other materials commonly used in this course, such as cases, readings, and/or simulations. The text focuses on how making winning moves depends on finding profitable patterns that repeatedly meet customer demands for solutions. Whereas many strategy books have lost sight of the purpose of strategy and fail to show how decisions actually affect business performance and, ultimately, outcomes, Management Strategy focuses on the types of analyses and strategic moves required, given the industry, environment, and a company's internal resources. In eight chapters, this textbook builds upon the analysis process and demonstrates how strategy impacts an organization's position in comparison to its competitors, both in terms of the cost and quality of its products and the scope of businesses in which it is involved (vertical and horizontal integration), as well as its global versus domestic reach. The outcomes that come from analyzing an organization also determine the extent to which the organization will strive to be an innovator as opposed to being a follower.

Managing Change: Cases and Concepts Review

Managing Change: Cases and Concepts
Average Reviews:

Although slightly dated Managing Change has become a classic of the genre and a favourite of business schools. For good reason. The book comprises some of the most useful academic articles on change management published in academic journals in the 1980s and early 1990s as well as case studies. The latter are well selected and will help to generate furious debate in any group that studies them. Jick's own contributions provide balanced and thoughtful links between the pieces as well as several articles on issues like the role of vision statements and implementing change.
Any one interested in change management will need this book. Although there are no `formulas' for the right way to introduce change programs, a thoughtful reading of the material in this book can only improve one's ability to implement change and to understand how others react to it.
Why four stars rather than five? The price of the book is unbelievable and (I suspect) hard to justify given the large numbers which would have sold in business schools. It's sad that no paperback edition is available for students either. I understand an updated edition is being prepared.

"Managing Change: Text and Cases", 2nd Edition, by Todd Jick and Maury Peiperl is a thoroughly revised version of a well-received volume on the scholarship of change in organizations. It is comprised of six modules that introduce common threads in the ensuing case studies and readings on organizational change. Of the 48 items in this book, 31 are new to this edition. The module introductions have been thoroughly revised; one modular introduction (Module 6, Continuous Change) is brand new.

Customer Service Skills for Success (Connect, Learn, Succeed) Review

Even though I have only just begun using this book, I do find that it is very useful. There are a lot of things in this book that are common sense stuff,, especially if you already have worked in customer service, but I think that everybody should read this book to know how to work and deal with the public. Buying it from Amazon.com saved me almost $40 compared to the cost at the college book store. I know that I will be searching to buy my books from here over the college from now on if they are available.

Not the Same Old Customer Service Textbook
Customer Service: Skills for Success uses a variety of activities and example to gain and hold readers' interest while providing additional insights into the concepts and skills related to customer service.

The text begins with a macro view of what customer service involves today and provides projections for the future then focuses on specific skills and related topics.

The fifth edition of Customer Service: Skills for Success contains 10 chapters divided into three parts, plus the Appendix, Glossary, and Bibliography. These parts focus on different aspects of customer service: (1) The Profession, (2) Skills for Success, and (3) Building and Maintaining Relationships. Along with valuable ideas, guidance, and perspectives, readers will also encounter interviews of real-world service providers and case study scenarios and activities to help you apply concepts learned to real-world situations in order to challenge your thinking on the issues presented. For users of previous editions, you will note a streamlined approach where we have combined material from several previous chapters.
